Prophesies and other things

Hello everyone…hope guys in Nija had a good Ramadan break.

I was going to write about the dangers of prophesies after I had a rather disturbing conversation with my friend last week but reading a story about a half brother and sister who wants to get married in Ireland made me change my mind. Or maybe I can kill two birds with one stone.

Basically, this friend of mine has two younger sisters who are both married and of 4 girls, she's the only one who is yet to get married and she's about 30. At the beginning of our conversation she didn’t sound like she was bothered over the fact that she's only not just married but also not dating anyone. I mean I didn’t think anything was wrong with this as she's doing very well careerwise. I've always thought everything in their own time. However, when I realised the real reason why she wasn't bothered, I became rather concerned. Apparently, she had been introduced to this Prophetess who told her that her glory will shine when she's 32 and it is that glory that will attract her future husband to her. Basically babe is going around not caring to date because she believes at 2012 her husband will come…whaddaeff!

I mean this is the 21st century and am surprised to find people who still live their lives according to such prophesies. Just today I read a story of how a woman was duped out of N3.6million just because she was looking for a husband. Stupidity doesn’t even begin to describe her. Yoruba will call it 'edi' and I couldn't agree more. Who in their right thinking mind will give N3.6million to one Iya Ijebu to find her husband if she's not under some sort of overpowering spell? Many of our young women fall for these kinds of scams even at a time when we think civilisation has helped to cure some of our backwardness. What do you say?

Now to the story of the siblings who want to get married. So they met and fell in love without realising they were related and went ahead to have a child. Now they want to get married but the law prohibits them from doing so. I have every sympathy for this couple whom I believe must have been traumatised by the revelation that they are related and I'm not entirely sure where I stand. I mean they have a child together already and that's the worst they could have done. Apart from medical problems the kids may develop, getting married wouldn't change what has happened, would it? What are your thoughts but first please click here to read the complete story.

The gist is prophecies are still real even in the 21st century! The problem is we folks from our part of the world don't fully understand yet how prophecies work.....

We need to carve our own lives first with God's leading before we allow the prophecy have dominion over us...

At least that's what my church mind thinks!

Nice post!!

Okay first of all - I dont believe in prophecies that cant be backed with a scriptural verse, and all that bring a cow before you get ur miracle is BS! I dnt need a prophet to tell me what my tomorrow will be - 'For i know the plans God has for me, plans of good and not of evil to give me a future and a hope.'

The woman needs study her own bible on a personal level - even if a prophet says she wont do whatever they said until she's 32, she doesnt have to sit back and expect magic- heaven helps those who help themselves. Even the bible says faith without works is dead- you cant just sit and expect the charming prince to appear when u are 32 because some prophet said so.

Wisdom needs to be applied here- stop turning ur prophets into God.

And as for those siblings- well i read they are half - brothers / half sisters and share the same dad- well goodluck to them- wish them the very best.

You know about the Irish siblings, they say what you don't know won't hurt you. Can you imagine how their not knowing would have helped their cause. You will be amazed at how many siblings through this sparm donation or "chop and clean mouth" would have met and married. It is a crazy world out there.

About prohesy issue, darling you will be surprise to know what people believe and how this lead them astray or aright! Her faith in the 32 yr glory may make or mar her... Many people in this 21st century are still running after prophesy o my sister!

It is so sad about the couple in question. Like the man pointed out, it was not their fault that it happened the way it did.

It's a hard one. But the law enforcement agencies would probably watch this one closely.

Na wa o, I also get surprised by the caliber of people who get sucked in by this prophets of pastors. Giving up chunks of money and major decisions in their lives to them. I just hope for their sakes that it ends in good unlike the woman that was scammed.

omo mehn, that's tough. people will believe all kinds of things, in the end - only God knows.

as per the sibling marriage; that is so crazy! shet.
....and they love each other? in this age, it's taboo but they suppose put their mindset to ancient times - weren't royal families practicing incest?! if it's good for them, i say carry go. dem don already born pikin!

Had a post on prophecies and it is so sad that some people still believe in all this nonsense...and it is some serious 'edi' that would make a woman part with 3.6m just to look for husband.

i know the dangers of prophesy...

i know that God uses prophecy. when i was younger i was a 'thomas' about testimonnies.

I believe that just because the devil perverts what God uses does not make the thing a bad thing.

My pastor in the western part of nigeria told me that a prophesy is always for exhortation so if i heard a prophesy of doom, i was never to believe it.

One simple rule i employ is that God will never go against His word.

Leaving aside your offensive "civilisation has helped to cure some of our backwardness" statement, what baffles me is how rational and intelligent beings can scoff at prophesies relating to finding a husband but can still go round believing in the virgin birth and in other prophesies such as the Second Coming of Christ. How can you consider some to be so ridiculous so as merit the tag of "backwardness" but others are perfectly ok to believe in??

Prophesies are prophesies - if you happen to believe in them, you can't pick and choose based on whether you "like" a particular prophesy or not!

If you are unfortunate enough to be a pastor-follower, a church-abider or a bible-adherent, then please at least be honest enough to be faithful...all these picking and choosing according to what is "easy to follow" or "convenient to believe in" nonsense is jarring!

Yours,
